Inclusive Digital Governance Festival

At the INDIGO Festival on Inclusive Digital Governance in the MENA region, held from October 4th–6th in Rome, Italy, reState delivered a keynote on innovative approaches to participatory governance and inclusive digitalization. Organized by the German Ministry for International Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the festival gathered stakeholders from across the MENA region to exchange best practices and explore future perspectives for public sector innovation and digital governance. In alignment with the OECD Working Group for Open and Innovative Governance, reState shared insights on collaborative governance models and cross-sector partnerships that support inclusive digital transformation in public institutions.

At the 2022 StrategEast State & IT Eurasian Forum in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, reState Foundation participated in the E-governance in Eurasia session, where Co-Founder and CEO Anastasia Kalinina joined a panel of regional leaders to discuss the digital transformation of public administration across Eurasia. The session explored how countries in the region are advancing e-government services to enhance transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement. reState contributed insights on participatory governance models and the importance of inclusive digitalization, highlighting pathways for building more responsive and effective public institutions in the digital age.

Forum on the Future of Governance and Global Collaboration at the World Government Summit

At the World Government Summit 2023, reState organized the Forum on the Future of Governance and Global Collaboration, featuring three sessions: Future of Participatory Governance, Consciousness Meets Technology: The Only Way Forward, and Digital Nomads: The Next Global Superpower. In the latter, reState introduced the concept of a Collaboration Nation, a network nation for global citizens and digital nomads, exploring what it would take to build a digital civilization rooted in collaboration. The session examined the building blocks of such a supranational structure, the role of foundational values, and the feasibility of network states. Speakers reflected on the theory and history of network governance and discussed whether a global entity based on collaboration as its core principle could become a reality.

reState participated in Zuzalu, the world’s first pop-up city experiment initiated by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin in Luštica Bay, Montenegro, from March to May 2023. This two-month gathering brought together around 200 participants to explore the intersections of decentralized governance, longevity science, future of AI, and digital identity. reState contributed to discussions on building collaborative, supranational structures and the foundational values of emerging digital civilizations. The event served as a living prototype for network states, highlighting the potential of peer-to-peer technologies and collective action in shaping future governance models.

At the European Web3 Summit, reState organized and hosted two sessions exploring the intersection of digital governance and human development. The first session, Making Europe a Global Center for Web3 in Governance, presented the concept of a Global Center of Excellence on the Future of Governance and Web3, aimed at educating governments, analyzing best practices, and building core elements of Web3 governance infrastructure – positioning Europe as a global leader in ethical Web3 adoption. The second session, Technology and Consciousness, addressed the widening gap between rapid technological progress and slower moral and ethical development, emphasizing the need to cultivate human consciousness to ensure decentralized systems reflect values of openness, collaboration, and shared well-being.

In June 2023, reState Foundation participated in the Blockchain Constitutionalism: The Role of Legitimacy in Polycentric Systems workshop at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence. This three-day event, organized by the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies and the Global Governance Programme, convened academics and practitioners to explore how blockchain networks and Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) can establish legitimacy through governance models rooted in constitutional principles and polycentric frameworks. reState contributed insights on participatory governance and the design of inclusive digital institutions, aligning with its mission to advance collaborative, transparent systems for the future of governance. The workshop underscored the importance of integrating legal theory and decentralized technologies to build legitimate and resilient digital governance structures.

At the 2023 Digital Identity unConference Europe (DICE) in Zurich, reState Foundation actively contributed to the collaborative exploration of decentralized identity solutions. DICE, known for its Open Space unConference format, brought together over 160 participants – including government representatives, technologists, and innovators – to co-create discussions on the future of digital identity.  reState’s participation underscored its commitment to advancing inclusive digital governance by engaging in dialogues around self-sovereign identity, interoperability, and the ethical implications of digital identity systems. Through these engagements, reState emphasized the importance of aligning technological advancements with human-centric values to foster trust and collaboration in the digital age.

In July 2023, reState Foundation participated in the Digital Humanism Summit on AI and Democratic Sustainability held in Vienna. This summit convened over 60 experts from academia, civil society, and international organizations across five continents to address the challenges posed by generative AI to democratic societies . The event was co-organized by the Digital Humanism Initiative, the OSUN Hannah Arendt Humanities Network at Bard College, and the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM).
reState contributed to discussions on the sociopolitical impacts of AI, emphasizing the need for participatory governance models that align technological advancements with human values. The summit’s agenda included topics such as the power and shortcomings of generative AI, its sociopolitical impact, AI regulation and global governance, and issues of scale and jurisdiction in AI governance .

At the 2023 Palau Blockchain Summit, held from August 27–29 in Koror, Palau, Anastasia Kalinina, CEO and Co-Founder of reState Foundation, delivered a keynote on the Future of Governance and Conscious Leadership. The summit convened global blockchain innovators, including Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, alongside Palau’s President Surangel Whipps Jr. and key government officials. Kalinina’s address emphasized the need for inclusive, decentralized governance models that align technological advancement with human-centric values. Following the summit, reState and the government of Palau agreed to pursue collaborative projects aimed at exploring blockchain-based governance solutions tailored to the unique needs of small island nations. This partnership signifies a shared commitment to pioneering ethical and sustainable digital governance frameworks.
